I just wonder if anyone has done this before. Pick a random address and send a letter to them. OR pick a random house on a random street. Is that too quirky or weird in this day and age? What if i just spun the google map globe, and picked a place that looked “lonely”. Wonders about your opinions or experience with this.

Ha! I just picked randomly on google maps, in Utah (somewhere I’ve never written) Ended up at a lil house, with a Jeep Cherokee For Sale! Still only considering it…

Love the randomness and also feeling a tad overcautious; how about picking, at random, an assisted living center?

Why not? As long as it’s a friendly letter? 🙂 How could anyone not be happy to receive a letter?

Back when I was in an active Cacophony Society group in my city, we had an event of mailing postcards, aided with art supplies, to people we didn’t know. Some of us chose destinations with wacky place names (Medicine Hat, Dildo, Truth Or Consequences, Westward Ho!) so it wasn’t entirely random.

Thanks @barbararohrer @lisac and @christinao The assisted living center is a great idea too! It made me feel like I should write to the centers here in my city and urban area. I will be sure to update with info on, what or where or who, I “randomingly write” Small town folks are probably more likely to appreciate it! – Cookie

For random people, you could try SendSomething, or up until the end of this month, there’s the address book at https://incowrimo-2017.org/portfolio/the-address-book/

I quite like the random people idea, it’s kind of like spreading joy! Well, it is spreading joy, (work with me here, I didn’t get enough sleep) you get the idea 🙂 I don’t think I would have thought of it myself, but I WAS looking for more names & addresses to write to, to keep up my rhythm once February is over.

I really like the assisted living center. If you got to church usually they have a lot of folks that could use some cheer. I had a list last year for people in homes all over, but can’t remember where I got the list. I do think it was a facebook group

If they scoff at it, you would never know about it, and be happily on your way, writing another letter to someone else! Ha! That’s kind of the fun thing about it, really. If someone doesn’t appreciate it, it is quite unlikely that they would write back. Or if you were afraid they might, simply don’t include a return address – seems pretty straightforward. I’ve participated in the love letter thing from moreloveletters.com where they leave “love letters” scattered around the city for random people to find, and your concept sounds pretty similar. Brightening someone’s day. I like it 🙂
