Hello Adam! Thank you so much for doing this!

I eventually found the red button for forums – a bit hidden away I thought, in frequent questions. It didn’t appear to work.
When I tried to contact, the box is only accepting one character.
For date of birth, it only goes back to 1963!? Not that I do want to add my birthday (cautious of putting info on internet).
The amethyst in the picture is a bit puzzling to me, but pretty.
          Kind regards, Elizabeth in England.

              Elizabeth,

Thank you for testing out the site! I forgot that the button on the FAQ page existed, which is why it didn’t work. I’ve fixed it now. The primary way to get to the forums is under the Members menu. I’ll look into the contact box, as that isn’t helpful if it is only accepting one character. Similarly, the birthday box should accept any date, I’ll try and see what is going on there as well.

As for the image on the front, it is a stock photo that we are using until we get a proper graphic for that spot–it should be going away soon.

              Adam

Ok, good news, both were easy fixes. For some reason the message field was defaulted to accept only a single character. I’ve removed that limit and now folks can write messages as long as their heart desires.

I also found that the acceptable year range was limited to 1963, as you pointed out. I’ve set that further back to 1920. If we have any centenarians in the group, then we can adjust it further back as needed.

                Hello!

Trying to find my way in the new website.

Apparently it works (both from computer and phone), I tried to search in the members database and I found out that there’s just a simple “Search” field, while we had more filters in the old website.
I hope that members will appear once the website is online (I have no more friends).
Also, I changed my profile photo, and while it was easy from a computer, it wasn’t possible from a mobile phone because it was quite complicated to crop the picture (the square kept moving too quickly).

                Thank you!

                    Francesca,

Thank you for testing the site! You are right, we currently have only a simple search box in the members field–we’ve been testing and trimming back the number of plugins that were running on the old site as we figure out what is necessary as well as what is wanted. We can add that function back in.

It is good to know that the profile image update process doesn’t work well on mobile. I’m not sure if that is something we can fix, as it is built into the plugins that run our profiles, but I’ll see if there is something that can make it nicer.

As for members–everyone is already on this site, but the member directory defaults to recent active members–if you change the view to “alphabetical” you will be able to see everyone. Unfortunately, while we were able to import our members to the new site, the relationships between those members didn’t import, so folks will have to recreate their friendship connections on the new site.

                    Adam

Feeling old, off the scale!… Only just. 1962….
                      ???? thanks!

Hahaha, yeah I have no idea why it was set to such an arbitrary limit. It seems to have come with the plugin as a default value, not sure what they had in mind.

                        Thank you, Adam!

I saw that the search box works perfectly – a filter I think was useful in the old website was “Search in the country field”: it was fast in case a member was looking for penpals from specific countries. We can still search for that, of course, we’ll just get more results that might not be relevant (that’s why I mentioned it, it’s not necessary).
Also, thank you, I just didn’t realize that with the “alphabetical” view all members were actually visible!

                          Hi All,
Just logged in today on a laptop. Everything seem to be working well. All the info on my profile migrated. What’s new seem to be the birthday function (a default date was used, default setting is that my friends can see it) – I don’t recall this info on the previous website, but maybe I just didn’t notice. Oh, when I clicked on edit for the birthday info, it looked like other info (ie. hobbies, writing materials) didn’t migrate from the old site and needed to be selected as mandatory fields. It was pretty straight forward.

In terms of searching for other members, it wasn’t super obvious where the info would be. I first clicked on Members-my friends, and later found “all members” when I clicked on the member tab at the top. At first glance, I didn’t realize that was an option to click, and I assumed I had to choose one of the 3 drop-down sub categories instead.

Otherwise, so far so good. Thanks for bringing us to a new website and keeping this going!

                          Cindy

Cindy, thank you for checking it out!

You are right that most of the profile material transferred, but there are some exceptions, such as the other info, which didn’t carry over. Some people also lost the number of letters they write per year due to a weird formatting issue in the export/import process. The other major thing that didn’t transfer were all the friendship connections, so folks will have to recreate those. As for the birthday field, it should have had the same default privacy settings as the old site, but I will double check to make sure that it does. That is odd that your birthdate was messed up in the import, I’ll have to look into that and see if I can figure out why.

I’ve made the change you recommended about having Members as one of the options in the drop down menu to help make it clear where to look for a listing of all members.

                                  Hi Adam,
I see the new members option under the members drop-down 🙂 Thank you for incorporating our feedback during this beta phase.

Re: bday – I really don’t remember what I put down in the old website. If it was optional, I may not have filled it out or made the info visible only to myself, and then the same info was transferred to the new site. The bday didn’t show up until I started editing my profile info, and then it was one of the mandatory fields where I had to select something.

It’s interesting to hear what may have transferred over and what didn’t for the beta users. Overall, the basic functions seem to be there 🙂

                                  Hi!

“I’m welcoming new penpals” is a checkbox as is I am not currently(…)” but I may kindly suggest turning them into bullets so it’s a “one or the other” option. Otherwise folks can check off both ????

And forums is a bit trickier to find. But so glad I did. I’m so excited for the new site!! Can’t wait to explore it more.

Oops, and I realized iPhone emojis turn into 4 question marks in a row! That was a smiley face above there. Haha.

Hello! I was checking my Friends tab and on the sidebar, it says that I have 12 friends. But, when I click that tab only 9 people show up. Is there a way to find those 3 other people? If you need more details, please let me know. Edit: It looks like when I find the other 3 people I am still friends with them, but they still don’t show up in my Friends tab.

I couldn’t work out why it said I had 25 friends but then showed only 13 in the friends list. I then noticed that the friends list only shows those who have recently logged into the site. A roundabout way I’ve found is to go to your profile, then Activity. It shows everyone you’ve made friends with there.

The issue is the drop down menu for the sort option is being ignored when you load your friends list and is instead sorting by “Last Active.” You can work around the bug by doing the following:
                                            – Go to your friends page
                                            – Change the sort drop down menu to “Last Active”
                                            – Change the sort drop down menu back to “Alphabetical”
After toggling between the two, you should see your full friends list.
                                            Does this help?
