A collaborative blog post
Thank you to everyone who contributed to create this post!
All I really need is pen, paper and someone to write to!
Anonymous
For the envelope I need a brush pen & stamps. For the letter I need a card, postcard or some blank paper & a pen I enjoy using. To make it more special I often include something I think the recipient would enjoy – a doodle, custom bookmark, colorful local flyer or article, sticker, ATC, or paper ephemera. Finally, washi tape to seal it all up. Those are the basics!
My essential kit includes the following: Dr. Grip refillable ballpoint pen that has a large barrel for an easy, cramp-free grip. My paper: I start off with one of my handmade greeting cards with 3 surfaces prepared for my writing, then I switch to free stationery that I printed off of Pinterest on paper thicker and smoother than copy paper.
I use a variety of postage stamps. I mostly use Ruth Bader Ginsberg, because she stands for principles that I believe in. Sometimes I use love stamps, like for family birthdays and Valentine’s Day cards.I like the newer compass rose international stamp, so I use them exclusively.
And, last but not least, chocolate is my treat for writing. Dove is the best, but most other chocolates will do. When the chocolate allotment runs out, I drink a lemonade powdered drink mix in icy water. I write at the kitchen table. I have a small notebook that has the names of my pen pals, I write when I received their mail and the date I responded. There is also a pocket calendar where I keep track of birthdays only so I know when to send out my handmade birthday cards.

Give me my Pilot E95, some purple ink, a few sheets of smooth paper, a cuppa chi tea and some candlelight…….and I’m good to go..
Fountain pen, fountain pen friendly paper, washi tapes, postage stamps (including vintage stamps), stickers, and the official lettermo participant stickers!

I’m no good with fountain pens, so I have a selection of ballpoint pens and fine-liners to choose from. As for paper, anything goes from simple notebook paper which I usually decorate myself to store-bought stationery.
Same goes for the envelopes, I have handmade ones (often from old calendar sheets), stationery ones and store-bought white or brown envelopes that I decorate in different ways.
I have a bag of assorted postage stamps for national and international use (and different letter sizes) and some airmail stickers. Add a big mug of tea and some music and I’m all set!
